The Law Works?

Schizophrenics Christians: "Our sky-god says that we can be bigoted and these laws contradict His teaching! You're stealing our right of conscience."
House of Lords: "STFU, noob. Your 'rights' based on your delusions end as soon as they impact people other than you. Fuck off or be sectioned."

Well, not exactly, but near enough.

New rules outlawing businesses from discriminating against homosexuals have been upheld in the House of Lords.

A challenge led by Lord Morrow of the Democratic Unionist Party failed by a majority of three to one. He had argued that the rules forced people to choose between obedience to God and obedience to the state...

Labour’s Lord Smith said: “I am somewhat puzzled by the arguments that have been advanced. It seems to me, in my simplistic way, that what they (the opponents of the regulations) are arguing for is quite simply the right to discriminate and the right to harass. And those arguments are being made in the name of Christianity.”

Heh. Too bad so many of our religious right over here forget the ideals of decency that Christ taught in favor of dogma.

I salute you, England.

For values, I hope, of England equal to the United Kingdom. They're not the same....

The law is already in force in NI (as of 1/1/7), and is being rolled out through England, Scotland, and Wales soon. AFAiK there's nothing equivalent currently in force in Scotland.

Could you be thinking of the equality of adoption stuff that was around before the Winter Shutdown?

I'm assuming an "Of course not!" in response, but it remains a possibility.

From the article, emphasis mine:

Lord Morrow's call to annul the regulations, which have applied in Northern Ireland since 1 January and are due to be implemented across the UK by April, was defeated by 199 votes to 68.

Fair enough.

The system (sometimes) works! Huzzah!

Go UK!

I'd hate to nag, but does the law cover gender as well? Many people argue that trans is separate from homosexuality, and this only adds another confusing level to establishing laws for this sort of thing. (I personally don't mind trans getting lumped in with GLB because of similar issues, but that's just more practical to me.)
