I'm having a hard time biting my remarks off at the pass. I don't want a repeat of last year, for sure, yet the comms blackout is already in effect. So I shall leave it at that (and I invite everyone to ask what happened last year, because I need to blow off stress).

So, in lieu of anything much to talk about, I'll fish for comments. If you've not filled it in before, just replace the blanks with whatever you think is appropriate and leave it in the comments.

I ____ Stew.
Stew is ____.
If I were alone in a room with Stew, I would _______.
I think Stew should _______.
Stew needs ______.
I want to _______ Stew.
Someday Stew will ________.
Stew reminds me of _______.
Without Stew _______.
Stew can be __________.
The worst thing about Stew is _________.
The best thing about Stew is _________.

Since I don't feel quite like yelling right now, I'll clue you in on something. When I say I want something to happen in order that I can blow off stress, it is not because I want the thing to happen, but because it would probably happen anyway. With this as a given, the "blowng off stress" becomes "being a condescending bastard towards all and sundry who bring up the subject", because I find being evil at people reduces my stress levels.

Last year I got rather annoyed, due to this American thing known as Thanksgiving. Further Information is available in the archives.

Think of it as "Stupid American Day of Gluttony and Day Before Mass Consumerism" instead of Thanksgiving. ;)

For reference: 11/26
11/27
11/29

To note, however, the US isn't the only place that celebrates Thanksgivings Day. We celebrate it in Canada, too, in early October (on the US's "Columbus Day," I believe). And aside from having a nice big dinner with family, it's not a big deal. No communication blackout, no ignoring usual social duties. I forget if it's a holiday or not.

Wow. Looking back, I have a lot more bitching comments than there were previously. Either I was LJDrama'd, or word got out some other way.

A required disclaimer, to prevent escalation: Yes, those entries are more bile-filled than any I would write right now, but they do a good enough job of indicating my general sentiment. I was even more bitter back then than I am now. Any attempt to carry anything on in this entry based on the ones linked above will be deleted without warning. This is (hopefully) my final word on the subject.

You should have comments set to email to ya, it'll email any comments to any entry. Easiest way of knowing instead of trying to follow a few hundred threads to see if someone commented. ;)

As far as LJ Drama, their search doesn't bring up anything that is an obvious link to ya...

communication blackout? *looks around blinking* what communication blackout? The web doesn't go down for nothin'. Newspapers are still printed. Phones, radio, and TV still work.

hang on, just read the last post in the series... Your problem is that you can't deal with some of the people you know spending a single day away from you (online)? Or even a 4 day weekend? Control issues much? Ya know that's the sort of thing they tell women to look out for - a guy who does that sorta shit while your dating is much more likely to slap you around after your married. Just chill dude, if the world ends, we'll all know, and if it doesn't, you can tell us whatever it was when we get back from our family time.

Now Columbus Day, that's a holiday I have issues with... (and Christmas being a national holiday, that sucks ass too, and... ok, I'll stop now...)

Change "some of the people" to "damn near everyone", for at least 4 days. Also note that the last post acknowledges that this is a problem I have that is irrational, though not to do with control issues.

All I can say about the Thanksgiving thing is that you eventually get used to it. As a Fur Fan, I've had to get used to half of my best friends disappearing off the net for 3 or 4 days a few times a year (whenever a major convention rolls around).

dude, sounds like your online friends have family out of the area and this is one of their family holiday things. I've never had that problem - if an overnight stay was required to make the trip worthwhile, we didn't see them much. Well, every other year we went to NY to visit my mom's side of the family, but that was like a 6 to 8 week trip. Although that was pre-internet for me. (BBS's and AOL don't really count - although there was one summer I ended up snail mailing a friend almost every day because I no longer had email access. Grandma waited 2 weeks after I left then snail mailed me 1/2 a dozen or so letters that came after I left. ) Also, just as a side note, it's pretty cool that your friends are all well off enough to get that much time off. It's not something that every american gets - many blue collar workers are lucky to get the whole day of Thursday off (and weekends aren't a given for most of those jobs either). that's another reason I've never had that problem. most of the people I know (exceptions being my own folks) had to work over part of the "thanksgiving holiday". Hmmm... find some blue collar friends probably isn't a good solution to this though... *I'm joking!* and rambling apparently... I should shut up now...

sorry that I came off so harsh. I'm around this weekend, if you get really bored, you can msg me - "moosapko" on AIM and yahoo.

I care immensely about Stew.
Stew is one of my best and closest friends, online or fleshbag. :-)
If I were alone in a room with Stew, I would get drunk with him, even though I've been sober for ten years. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime thing, getting drunk with Stew.
I think Stew should spend next year's American Thanksgiving at my place, with BC. [Hush, O Sarcastic One! I mean that. I'd far rather ditch my family and spend time with you and the missus here, in person. The invite is serious.
Stew needs to co-write a story with Warren Ellis.
I want to visit Stew, perhaps this summer.
Someday Stew will realize that all of the reasons that we love him -- his wit, his sarcasm, his intelligence, his way with words, his strength of character and willingness to stand for what he believes in, his loyalty to his friends -- make him an amazing person.
Stew reminds me of myself, save that he speaks some convoluted form of American. And he's way better at mathematics. :-)
Without Stew I never would have felt at home on the forums; I never would have picked up a Live Journal; I never would have met half of the people I know and love online; and, somewhere in the past, I most likely would gone back to cutting and burning as the only way that I could get by.
Stew can be my friend for as long as he chooses to do so, because it's an honor.
The worst thing about Stew is that he and the rest of us live billions of miles apart.
The best thing about Stew is that he is who he is.
